Technology, Trust and Talent for the Digital Age

In the digital age, the world is experiencing the biggest restructuring of the labour market since the industrial revolution. Many of the jobs being staffed today didn’t exist a decade ago. Globally, economies are seeing massive shifts towards temporary and contract work, otherwise known as the rise of the gig economy. Workers are changing jobs and careers dozens of times in their life, and learning is becoming an on-demand practice.

In the Digital age, Government is going to need to be able to see, trust and find talent differently than in the past. We need to pioneer a future for the gig economy that provides the best talent to build government programs and services. But we need to do this in a way that protects rights, allows workers mobility, and acts as an upskilling engine for the nation’s talent force.

We have the opportunity to leverage today’s digital technology to better align learner, education, and workforce data to improve the talent marketplace not only for the Government of Canada but also far beyond the walls of Government.

That is why we are taking actions today.

Demo: Blockchain Credentials for Canada’s Free Agents. This is a first-of-its-kind project for skill validation in the Government of Canada.

“Proving yourself” with paper or checking a database will now be a thing of the past. Using Blockcerts, will empower Free Agents to independently and securely “own” their identity and prove their qualifications in a way that is easy and respects their individual rights to privacy as they move across the federal government doing project-based work.
